Faith Formation

Catechesis aims at putting “people. . . in communion. . . with Jesus Christ: only He can lead us to the love of the Father, in the Spirit and make us sharers in the life of the Holy Trinity.” —CCC 426.

In this parish we offer Faith Formation intergenerationally and family-style.  EVERYONE is welcome!  The goals of the program are to encourage and equip all registrants to develop or deepen their personal relationship with our amazing God, an encounter that changes one’s life.    This is otherwise known as forming intentional disciples.  Intentional disciples model their lives after our Savior, Jesus Christ, in obedience to the Father with the aid of the Holy Spirit and the intercession of Mary, Mother of God, and all the angels and saints.  Encounters compel us to want to share God’s love and mercy with others.  (It can happen at any age!  Here is the testimony of Mari Pablo, who was 10 when she had her encounter.)  This leads to knowing, joyfully living, acts of service and sharing the faith.

Our faith formation program meets once per month (for community-building), scheduled September – June.  Our weekly learning is done at home, family-style.  In this way, parents are learning/getting a refresher along with their children.  Our Diocese’s website lists prayers, practices and Bible stories children are expected to know by grade level. Register for faith formation by completing the form and return it to the Parish Center with the appropriate fee.

For summer 2025 try 12 weeks from Formed on Summer with the Saints.  If you have young children (ages 4-5th grade) give them a week (6/30-7/4) of half days of singing, learning and crafts at the ecumenical VBS in Penn Yan.  Register here.

As a member of the diocesan church, we are bound to the guidelines it sets forth. Educational opportunities are in conformity with the diocese and the mandates of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). The 4 Pillars of the Faith & 14 themes provide a quick overview. Prayers everyone should know are found here. Preparation for reception of the Sacraments is done outside of regular Faith Formation.  Contact the Religious Education Coordinator or Pastor for more info.

We help ourselves to encounter God through reading the Bible, prayer, worship and celebrating the Sacraments, forming our faith, serving & participating in the life and ministries of the Church, having fellowship with other believers, journaling and spiritual direction.  Our individual stories write our sacred stories.  To learn the importance of recording them, click here.  Intentional disciples know and defend the faith (Apologetics).  This webinar from Word on Fire Institute explains it.
